WINTHROP, Mass. – Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.), the leading goal scorer in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference as a freshman, has been named the GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, as the league office announced the weekly awards Monday afternoon.
Blaha registered four goals in a 6-0 victory over future conference rival Dean College last Wednesday, her second four-goal match of the season. Her first goal of the day came just two minutes into the contest, and then she scored again later in the first period to give the Pride a 2-0 lead. She followed with one goal in the second period and one goal in the third period as she finished with 12 total shots, including eight shots on goal.
Last Friday at Anna Maria, Blaha once again led Regis with three total shots, including two shots on goal, to move into second in the GNAC with 42 total shots so far this season. Blaha is currently tied for 15th in Division III, including tied for third among freshmen, in goals per game at 1.1, plus she is 35th in the country, including fourth among freshmen, in points per game at 2.2.
Blaha has received half of the conference's weekly rookie awards so far this season, plus she was named Player of the Week Sept. 16. The last Regis field hockey player to earn multiple GNAC weekly honors in one season was Maresa Malcolm, the four-time Goalkeeper of the Week during the 2017 campaign.
Regis continues a stretch of four straight road matches Wednesday, Oct. 9, by traveling to face Eastern Connecticut State for a 4 p.m. start. After making the short trip to Lasell Saturday, Oct. 12, for a 12 noon start, the Pride are scheduled to play four consecutive home matches, beginning Thursday, Oct. 17, against Mount Holyoke College.
