JOSEPH, ABREU, AND DONOVAN NAB ALL-NECC AWARDS
The Regis College women’s soccer team garnered three players with All-New England Collegiate Conference Awards Monday afternoon. The Pride’s Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) and Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) nabbed spots on the All-NECC Second Team, while junior defensive back Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass.) grabbed an honorable mention.
WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's soccer team garnered three players with All-New England Collegiate Conference Awards Monday afternoon. The Pride's Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) and Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) nabbed spots on the All-NECC Second Team, while junior defensive back Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass.) grabbed an honorable mention.
Freshman forward Adena Joseph was an offensive dynamo for the Pride tallying a team high of 28 points on the season. She netted a team high in goals with 12 and dished out four assists. This offensive production ranked her 73rd in the nation for points per game average. Joseph's skill at the forward position helped the Pride finish with eight wins and eight losses. In three of these victories Joseph tallied the game winning goal, tying her for first on the team.
First year forward Kristen Abreu set the pace for the Pride's offense notching 16 points on the season. She was tied for second most goals on the team with seven and gave out two assists. Abreu helped the Pride finish with an 8-8 record, which ties the previous season high set in 2005. Abreu secured three of these eight wins by putting in three game winning goals on the season.
Junior defensive back Kara Donovan started in 14 games for the Pride and played in all 16 games on the season. Out of the 16 games played, four were at the goalkeeper position. As a goalkeeper Donovan tallied 16 saves in 187 minutes played. This strong play secured Donovan as a cornerstone in the Pride's defensive backfield.
