WOMEN'S SOCCER HANDS OUT TEAM AWARDS
WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College Women's Soccer team held its end of season dinner on Monday, November 14, 2011. The team had many successes to celebrate, including making the postseason for the first time in Regis Soccer history, tying the total number of wins (8) in a single season, and finishing with a .500 overall record for the first time in program history. In addition to recapping the team accomplishments, the coaches recognized the efforts the team winners, as well as the five graduating seniors.
Women's Soccer Team Awards 2011
Team Leading Scorer 2011: Adena Joseph, a freshman striker, played in all 16 games for the Pride this fall, and started in 15 out of the 16 games. She ended this season with 12 goals and four assists, for a total of 28 points and earned NECC Second Team All-Conference recognition. In just her first year on the team, Joseph has already established herself in the Regis Women's Soccer record books as the leader in Most Points in a Single Season (28 points), sixth in the Career Goals Scored category (12 goals), and tied for first place in Most Goals in a Season (12 goals).
Rookie of the Year 2011: Jasmin Vivar, a freshman midfielder, started in 13 games this fall. Vivar scored two goals and had six assists over the course of the season, for a total of 10 points. Vivar is now tied 10th place in Most Career Assists, and tied for 5th place in Most Assists in a Single Season. While the statistics and records are impressive, her contributions to the team also include her poise and composure in the midfield, her first touch and her foot skills, and her ability to find the open players and distribute the ball.
Coaches' Award 2011: Kara Donovan, a junior defender, earned NECC All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition for her consistently strong contributions on defense this season. Donovan is a tough, aggressive force in the defensive end for Regis. The coaches' appreciate Donovan's work ethic, her competitiveness, and her willingness to play wherever she is needed on the field and do whatever it takes to help her team win.
Most Valuable Player 2011: Michelle Sirois, a junior midfielder/striker, ended the season with seven goals and three assists (17 total points) for the Pride. Sirois has firmly established herself within the Regis Women's Soccer record books in several categories. With 32 career points scored over two seasons, Sirois is now ranked 7th on the All-Time Career Points Scored list. She is currently tied for 10th place for Most Points (17) in a Single Season. In the category of Career Goals Scored, Sirois is in 5th place with 14 goals; and her seven goals this season put her in a 5-way tie for 7th place for Most Goals Scored in a Single Season. In addition to the fact that Sirois is a key contributor to the Pride offense, she is also a team player with a positive attitude and a tremendous work ethic.
The players and coaches recognized the commitment and efforts of the five graduating soccer players: Kelly Cadigan (Tri-Captain), Beth Frye, Shelley Mitropoulos (Tri-Captain), Kara Sharples (Tri-Captain) and Michaela Yebba. Although the seniors will be greatly missed, the women's soccer program is in good hands with the selection of the 2012 team captains: midfielder Melissa Choz, defender Kara Donovan, and midfield/striker Michelle Sirois.
