PRIDE AND AMCATS CLAW TO 1-1 TIE

PAXTON, Mass. (09.29.10) – The Anna Maria College women’s soccer team fought to a 1-1 tie in double overtime against the Regis Pride in a rain soaked battle in at AMCAT Field on Tuesday night. Anna Maria moves to 0-9-2 on the year and 0-6-1 in the conference, while Regis goes to 3-8-1 overall and 0-6-1 in TCCC play.

The AMCATS jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Marissa McCann (Webster, Mass.) knocked in an unassisted goal in the 28th minute of the first half.
 
Despite being outshot 9-8, the AMCATS went into the second half holding on to the 1-0 advantage.
 
With time running out, the Pride were finally able to break through in the 86th minute when Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) tied the match at 1-1.
 
Neither team could mount much of offensive attack in the first overtime. Both Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Michaela Yebba (Wakefield, Mass.) made one save each to keep their teams alive.
 
Despite outshooting the AMCATS 3-0 in the second overtime, neither team was able to put any points on the board.
 
The Pride held a commanding 10-2 edge in corners and outshot the AMCATS 13-9 on the night. Ruggeri was solid in net for AMCATS turning away 12 shots, while Yebba and Bethany Frye combined to make eight saves for the Pride. McCann’s goal for the AMCATS was her second tally of the season, while the Sirois’ goal was her third on the year for Regis.

The Pride will return to action on Thursday for a non-conference matchup with Newbury at home. The AMCATS battle Fitchburg State in a non-conference matchup at home Thursday at 4:00 PM.
