WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College women's basketball team defeated Becker College Tuesday night at the Teresa Higgins Gymnasium by the score of 86-45. The Pride moves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the NECC, while the Hawks move to 0-6 and 0-1 in the NECC.
PRIDE POUNCES PAST HAWKS 86-45
The Pride got the scoring started early in the first half when Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) finished a crisp pass from Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine.) to put the Pride up by eight. The offense continued to click with Crawford tallying 12 points in the first period. Ramonas put in a solid effort by racking up five boards and eight points in the first half. The Hawks offense was led by Tatiana Mojica who netted nine points in the first period. Kristina Desnoyers helped set up the offense by tallying four assists. The Pride entered half time with a 16 point lead after Crawford hit a layup to make the score 43-27 in the final seconds of play.
The second half opened with the Pride hitting full stride. Ramonas increased her presence on the boards by completing two quick dishes from freshman Dana Sparks (Orlando, Fla.) to put the Pride up by as many as 12. The Pride's defense was helped out by Crawford who caused two turnovers and snatched up two steals. Crawford finished the day with 14 points and is currently two points away from hitting the 1,000 point mark in her career. Crawford will become the twelfth member of the Pride's prestigious 1,000 point club in her next game.
The Hawks offense was paced by Mojica who finished the day with 13 points. Haley Ooms came up with a solid second half by taking down nine boards and notching 10 points. Ooms closed out the final minutes of the game by hitting a deep jumper to make the final score 86-45 in favor of the Pride.
The Crimson and Gold returns to action Saturday afternoon when they host the Eagles from Daniel Webster College at 1:00 p.m. The Hawks next match-up is Thursday, December 8th when they travel to Paxton, Massachusetts to take on Anna Maria College.
