PREVIEW: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO FACE MULES

WESTON, Mass.—Women’s basketball will ride a three-game conference-winning streak into its first non-conference game since falling to Tufts. Regis College will host the Colby College Mules Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

Colby (12-3, 2-1 NESCAC) enters the game having gone three rounds (overtimes) with fellow conference opponent Tufts Saturday. Jayde Bennett led the Mules with the first double-double of her career. Posting 11 points and 11 rebounds, Bennett and Colby defeated Tufts 67-54 in three overtimes.

Regis College (9-7, 3-2 TCCC) seems to have found its confidence after dropping its first two conference games of the season. Most recently defeating Eastern Nazarene 65-51, Regis College very well could be back to its winning ways of the 2009-10 season that had the Pride vying for the conference championship.

Claire Ramonas and Stephanie Crawford combined for 37 points, adding 21 and 16 points, respectively, to Regis’ third conference win. Ramonas increased her points per game average +3.8 since beginning TCCC play. Posting just 9.0 PPG before conference play, Ramonas has upped that to 12.8 PPG against the TCCC.

Crawford has also developed a new offensive prowess. Scoring on average of 2.8 points per game more in conference play, Crawford has scored double figures against Regis’ last three opponents, and averaged 3.6 assists per game.

Four of Colby’s players average double figures. Rachel Mack, Julianne Kowalski, Jill Vaughn, and Aarika Ritche tally 11.8, 11.3, 11.2, and 10.8 points per game, respectively. Saturday marked the second time this season that Colby has gone into at least overtime with an opponent. Its first overtime period came in a loss to Bates College (93-87).

The Pride also lost to Bates during the Babson College Tournament earlier this season. With Regis College being slightly below its season marks in conference play; the team should be fairly consistent against the Mules.

Look for Ramonas, Crawford, and Sarah McNult to anchor the Pride going into Tuesday's match-up. McNult is a rebounding force, and with her near the boards increases Regis' second-chance opportunities.
