WESTON, Mass. – Regis College men's tennis player Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday morning by the league offices. Teammate Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) was named the NECC Rookie of the Week as well.
Nop and Nace helped lead the Pride to its first ever NECC Championship this past Saturday with a 7-2 win over Mitchell College.
Sophorn Nop went a perfect 2-0 at No. 4 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles during the NECC postseason. In the Championship match, Nop rallied after dropping the opening set to post a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win and clinch the deciding point for Regis. For his efforts, Nop was named the NECC Tournament MVP and was also named to the doubles All-Tournament Team with Matt Smolko.
Austin Nace teamed with Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) to go a perfect 2-0 in doubles play during the NECC postseason. Nace and White grabbed a crucial point at No. 2 doubles in the Championship match with an 8-1 win. The duo were named to the NECC All-Tournament doubles teams for their efforts.
