WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's tennis team jumped out to an early lead after doubles play and never looked back, defeating visiting Newbury College, 8-1 in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match on Tuesday evening.

With the win, the Pride capture their eighth consecutive victory and improve to 8-8 overall, 8-0 NECC, while the Nighthawks fall to 0-6 on the season, 0-5 in league play.

Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) got things started at top doubles, shutting out the duo of John Morgan (Cumberland, R.I.) and Joey Verdon (Brookline, Mass.), 8-0. The Pride's Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) were able to get past Alex Chappell (East Haddam, Conn.) and Wayne Gethers (Cambridge, Mass.) of Newbury, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Matt Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) also won at the third position for the clean sweep of doubles play.

In singles play, Beluch, White, and Diallo each won their respective matches by 6-0, 6-0 set scores at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 positions, respectively. Nop and freshman Biruk Legesse (Marion, Mass.) also registered wins for the Pride, as Nop handled Verdon, 6-1 and 6-2 at the fourth singles position, while Legesse beat Gabriel Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) at the sixth position, 6-2 and 6-1.

Morgan picked up the lone Nighthawk victory on the day, as the junior defeated Parrish (6-2, 6-4) at the No. 2 singles position, 6-2, 6-4.

The Pride will be back on the courts on Thursday, April 18 when they travel to Lesley for a 7:30 p.m. NECC match. Newbury will also be back in action on Thursday, as the Nighthawks host Mitchell at 3:30 p.m.
