WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College men's tennis team defeated NECC opponent Lesley University Thursday night by the score of 7-2. The victory moves the Pride to 11-6 overall on the season and 8-1 in the NECC. The Lynx move to 4-6 overall on the season and are 4-5 in NECC play.
The Pride started the match off on a solid performance at number one doubles from the duo of Mike Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.). Beluch and White defeated the Lynx tandem of Nick Mattox (Pasadena, M.d.) and Christian Domingo (Granada Hills, Calif.) handily by 8-0.
The Lynx would take the second doubles match under the strong efforts of Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Calif.) and Paolo DiPietrantonio (Cambridge, Mass.) who defeated the Pride's Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) by the score of 8-5.
Regis answered with its second win at the number three doubles spot when Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) and Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) defeated Lesley teammates Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, Conn.) and Jimmy Paulsen (Monroe, Conn.) by 8-4.
Regis started the first singles match with a solid performance from freshman Mike Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) who took down the Lynx Nick Mattox 6-0, 6-0. Andy white tallied the second singles victory for the Pride by defeating DiPietrantonio 6-3, 6-1. Jeffrie Parrish took the third singles victory by defeating Domingo in a lengthy set that ended with a tie-break set at 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. Smolko and Diallo notched the two final victories in singles for the Pride on the day taking down Tedesco and Thomas Rogalski (Middletown, Conn.).
The Lynx received a strong performance from Mike Kaufman at the number six singles spot as he defeated the Pride's Jonathan Dost (Taunton, Mass.) by the score of 6-1, 6-2.
Regis will return to action tomorrow as the Pride hosts NECC opponent Becker College at 3:00 p.m. The Lynx next match is Saturday against Newbury College at 3:30 p.m.
