MANDIC, YERZYK, AND MCGOVERN LEAD PRIDE IN WIN OVER CHARGERS
Weston, Mass—The Regis College men and women’s swimming and diving teams competed this past weekend against Colby-Sawyer College. Both squads were successful in defeating the visiting Chargers. The men defeated the Chargers by the score of 133-105, while the women were victorious by tallying a score of 124-122. The men improve their record to 6-5 and the women improve overall on the season to 3-9.

The men defeated the Chargers by the score of 133-105, while the women were victorious by tallying a score of 124-122. The men improve their record to 6-5 and the women improve overall on the season to 3-9.
The men were led by Djordje Mandic (Portland, Maine/Deering) who took first place in the 200-yard freestyle, 50 freestyle, and 100 freestyle.
Nick Yerzyk (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade College Prep.) and Ben Perry (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee) recorded the top two times in the 50 backstroke with Yerzyk finishing in 28.34 and Perry coming in a close second with a time of 29.27. Perry’s strong swimming finally paid off when he took first place in the 100 backstroke.
The Pride continued to dominate most events throughout the meet. Stephen McGovern (Dorchester, Mass./Boston College) took a first place finish in the 50 breaststroke recording a time of 30.09. McGovern continued to swim well for the Pride all day. He finished with another first place in the 200 breaststroke and the 100 IM events.
Andy Laforest (Roslindale, Mass./Another Course) and Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) captured first and second, respectfully, in the 100 butterfly. Laforest picked up first place with a strong finish in the butterfly with a winning time of 1:00.19. Caliendo finished in second with a solid time of 1:00.98.
Mandic, LaForrest, Caliendo, and Perry finished the day out for the Pride winning the 200 freestyle relay. This was the second meet in a row that the men have won. They have posted an impressive 104 percent improvement on the season. The Next meet for the Pride will be on Saturday (Jan. 29) against Elms College with an 11:00 a.m. scheduled start.
