KWARTENG'S FIRST GOAL NOT ENOUGH AS PRIDE FALLS, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Host Clark University scored three unanswered goals and rebounded from an early goal allowed to post a 3-1 win over visiting Regis College on Saturday afternoon in non-league men's soccer action. With the win, the Cougars improve to 6-5-2, while the Pride dip to 6-10 and have now dropped three straight games.

Regis got on the board first, getting the first collegiate goal from Nana Kwarteng (Milford, Mass.) off of corner kick feed from Shawn McDonough (Darmstadt, Germany) in the fifth minute of action.

Clark responded in the final minutes of the opening stanza when Gianluca Ranallo (Scarsdale, N.Y.) served in a corner kick of his own that Trevor Hendry (Waterford, Conn.) banged home to even the score at the 41:03 mark.

Things stayed that way until the midpoint of the second half when Matt Yalouris (Cambridge, Mass.), who entered the game seconds before as a substitution, set up Oscar Zapata (Lima, Peru) for his team-leading seventh goal of the season, making the score 2-1 in the 61st minute. The Cougars added an insurance marker in the 88th minute when Kenny Howard (Longmeadow, Mass.) converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season.

The Scarlet and White held a huge advantage in shots (22-7) and an edge in corner kicks (7-4).

Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) made three saves for the Pride, while Clark keeper Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) turned back three of his own.

The Cougars waste little time in returning to action, playing host to Eastern Nazarene on Monday evening, while Regis is off until next Saturday when they host Lesley.
