REGIS COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NICK SMITH AS ASSISTANT COACH
Weston, Mass.Regis College Director of Athletics, Marybeth Lamb, named Nicholas G. Smith as the new assistant coach to mens basketball. Smith joins second year head coach, Nathan Hager, in leadership of the mens basketball program.
Weston, Mass.-Regis College Director of Athletics, Marybeth Lamb, named Nicholas G. Smith as the new assistant coach to men's basketball. Smith joins second year head coach, Nathan Hager, in leadership of the men's basketball program.
In response to the hiring of Smith, Hager said, "I am very excited to have Coach Smith on board for the upcoming season. He went on to say, "Nick is a fantastic basketball mind, and tremendous teacher. But more importantly, he is no stranger to Division-III athletics."
Smith's duties include scouting, and development of post and forward position player's. As well, he will be charged with assisting Hager with recruiting. "He embodies all the philosophies we hold in high regard here at Regis." The Pride's 2008-09 team motto is Furious Urgency Now (FUN).
Smith joins the Regis program after serving two seasons as head coach of the Narragansett Regional High School team (Baldwinville, Mass.).
Also, Smith served as head coach of the junior varsity Hudson High School women's team during the 2002-03 season. Adding to his coaching experience, Smith has been a staff member of the Jim Calhoun Basketball Camp (Storrs, Conn.) for the past six summers.
Since 2006, Smith founded, and has operated the Professor Hoops Basketball Academy, along with coaching at the Holy Cross Basketball Camp.
Smith played collegiate basketball at Fitchburg State College from 2004-06, earning all-tournament honors at The Ken Wright 52 Invitational at Amherst College in 2005. While playing, he averaged 7.9 points per game, and 5.6 rebounds per game in 42 games for the Falcons.
Smith is a native of Fitchburg, Mass., and is employed in the Special Education Department at Fitchburg Arts Academy.
